Dean York · Saskatoon, Saskatchewan
Got a chem quote? Run it past Dean first.
Dean has vendor pricing on the generics going through your sprayer. Send him your list and he'll tell you where the number should be. Buy from him, or take it back to your retailer and get a sharper price. Either way, you know.
The problem
One quote isn't a price. It's an opening offer.
A full season of burnoff, in-crop, fungicide and pre-harvest adds up fast. When the only number on the table is your retailer's, you've got nothing to measure it against.
Dean sits on the other side of that table. He's spent years on the crop-input side of western Canadian ag, and he has access to vendor pricing on a long list of generics. That number is what makes the conversation with your retailer an honest one.

Resistance groups
The number that matters most.
- Group 1Grass weeds stop growing within days, the growing point rots out, and the plant dies over a couple of weeks.
- Group 2Growth stops first. Yellowing and death come slowly, sometimes over weeks.
- Group 4Broadleaf weeds twist, curl and grow themselves to death.
- Group 9Moves all through the plant, roots included. Slow but thorough.
- Group 10A contact burn, visible within days.
- Group 14Very fast burn, often visible within a day.
The season
A Prairie year, stage by stage.
How it works
Same retailer. Better number.
- 01
Get your quote
Same as you always do. Price out the year's program with your retailer.
- 02
Send it to Dean
The whole list or just the big line items. A picture of the quote is fine.
- 03
Get a real number
Dean checks it against vendor pricing and gives it to you in cost per acre.
- 04
You decide
Buy from Dean, or take it back to your retailer. Your call.
You can buy from Dean. You don't have to.
Keep the retailer you've dealt with for years, and stop guessing whether the price is fair. When it does make sense to buy, semi-loads go direct to farm, and smaller orders can be put together.
What's on the list
74 products, burnoff to pre-harvest.

An advisor in your corner
He's sat on the other side of the table.
Dean was Regional Manager, Canada for Sharda Cropchem and a senior territory manager with Farmers Business Network. He knows how generics get to market, and how the price moves on the way to your yard.
Farmers work with Dean for the number. They stay for straight answers on what compares and what doesn't, and for Coffee Talk every Thursday.
